NOT A FISH

MOBY is a rod

MOBY is not a legendary fish and it is not a white whale. The 1.0 announcement says beating the boss unlocks MOBY, and the follow-up notes treat it as a rod. The official species API has no fish named Moby.

People searching for “moby” may mean this rod or the ending. The ending page has the spoiler path. This page only covers what the rod is for.

What the rod gates

Rhizo, the Lake mythical with a recorded max of 375,000 lb, requires MOBY according to the official 1.0 announcement. Community notes recommend the rod for Colossal Squid and Megalodon, but that is not a confirmed hard requirement. API bait observations do not record which rod was used and cannot establish rod requirements.

Achievement API name ACH_MOBY was at 0.20 percent on 23 October 2026.
A preview post mentioned a Jeremy Wade difficulty alongside MOBY. The release post names the rod. Treat the difficulty as unconfirmed by the release text.
After the boss, an upgraded butcher table should give two hearts. A hotfix fixed a one-heart bug.

Questions

Where do I fish for Moby?

You don’t. You defeat the Lake Entity. Then the rod is available.

Is there a Moby Dick reference in the species list?

Not as a fish entry. The name is on the rod and on an achievement.
